The nursery opening hours are:

Monday to Friday: 8.00 am until 6.00 pm

We are open all year round (excepting 25-26 December and 1-2 January)

Sunshine Nursery Kirkcaldy opened its doors in November 1990 and is the longest running nursery in the town. Providing a homely atmosphere, our centrally located building is warm, safe and secure.

Maintaining our belief that children thrive in small groups, we are registered for only 31 children. This ensures our staff to child ratio offers your child the greatest amount of individual attention.

The building consists of three playrooms catering for the different age-appropriate needs of our babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. We have a secure outdoor area providing lots of opportunities for outdoor play.

Due to our great central location we are able to take advantage of community facilities and can be seen out and about visiting many of the local amenities, for example the library, Beveridge Park or the beach.

Sunshine Nursery Kirkcaldy is easily accessible for parents who commute. We are in walking distance of the bus and train station.

The Toddler room at Sunshine Nursery Kirkcaldy is situated on the ground floor. It is registered for up to 10 children per day and the staff to child ratio is 1:3. The room has been organised to encourage inquisitive little minds to access resources and exercise freedom of choice about the activities they wish to participate in.

Stimulating conversation, interactive play and learning to socialise, share and make friends is all part of the day in our toddler room.

The Toddler room is divided into two areas. One of which is carpeted to make the area comfortable and cosy with small areas where your child can relax and enjoy quiet time or perhaps a good book. The other area we like to call our messy area is where your child will be given the opportunity to, as you can tell by the name get messy!

At this stage of development we appreciate that our little ones are full of energy so we make good use of outdoor area and use it at least twice a day.

The Biggie room at Sunshine Nursery Kirkcaldy is situated on the first floor. It is registered for up to 15 children. The staff to child ratio is 1:5. At Sunshine Nursery we deliver our curriculum in a fun and exciting way allowing your child to learn naturally through play. Your child will be encouraged to learn at their own pace within their own abilities.

In the Biggie room your child can make full use of all the activities on offer. They can be whatever they want to be: a builder at our construction area, an artist at the painting easel, a musician with our varied selection of musical instruments, the opportunities are endless!

The fun doesn’t stop there as we can always be found outside in our garden area, planting, digging, climbing looking for bugs or shooting hoops.

As the Sunshine Nursery Kirkcaldy Baby room is situated on the first floor and registered for up to six babies the staff to child ratio is 1:2. It is important for babies to receive continuity of care between home and nursery, therefore the nursery staff will ensure your child’s familiar routine is maintained.

In the Baby room we encourage play through the senses and there are lots of different activities during the week for example treasure baskets, singing, bubbles, exploring textures, etc. At the Sunshine Nursery we are also aware ofthe importance of fresh air and exercise, so weather permitting we enjoy getting out and about in the community on a daily basis.

We have a separate sleeping area for your baby which is decorated in calm colours to encourage a tranquil atmosphere.

Linda Fraser (Director)

As a parent myself, I recognise the importance of having high quality childcare. I pride myself on having nurseries which are committed to delivering excellence in small nursery environments.

I qualified in 1984 and have worked in all day childcare ever since. I began my self-employed career at the age of 19 and am now the longest established pre-school provider in the Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes area.

My philosophy of pre-school education stems from my very first nursery. I experienced the benefits of small groups for young children. I observed that delivery in small groups allowed the children to quickly become emotionally secure and happy in their new environment. I saw that their bonding with staff and peers encouraged all areas of their learning. I have committed myself to this form of delivery throughout my career and that is why I still have small nurseries today.

 Diana Gray

My name is Diana and I am the Manager. I have a HNC in Childcare and Education which I gained in 1996 and I am currently working on my PDA in Childcare. I joined Sunshine Nursery in 1998 but in 2007 took a break from the company to gain new experiences. After a year away from the company I could not wait to return to the company due to its friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I enjoy working with children and where better to do it than a place where the sun always shines.
